What kind of budget do you expect to have as a robotics team?
Though the prices have varied in previous years, due to location, this year we are looking at around $40,000 needed in order to take compete in the FIRST competitions. Those are estimated at $6,000 for registration and kit of parts, $5,000 for travel to Fairbanks, $25,000 for travel to Hawaii, and if we make it to worlds for either competition then it'd be $4,000.
What can a student expect by being on the Highlanders Robotics team?
The students on our team can expect to be taking part in either the FTC or FRC competitions as well learning a great deal in team work and community building, and will occasionally take part in presentations to business partners and eccentric sponsors. They usually work much harder and longer than any average student and we guarantee that they will fun doing it.
How many years have the Highlanders been a team?
The Highlanders Robotics team has been established for 7 years now and in our first year as a team we made it to 11th place in the Las Vegas Regional Competition, which we now know is much harder than it sounds
As a Robotics team, what is it that you do?
On the Highlanders robotics team we come together to learn about engineering, science, and technology by taking part in the FIRST FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) and FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge).
